The existence of the maroon community of Cachoeira Porteira in the municipality of Oriximiná, State of Pará, is historically documented in the records as dating back to 1778. Ivanildo is the widely respected community leader and has been fighting for many years to get the communities territory recognised by the state to ensure a more stable future.
