- 09:30 Press conference, Royal Society (Contact: Wanda Bautista firstname.lastname@example.org)
- 10:30 Panel discussion: Indigenous Partners, Global Witness, Ford Foundation & Special Guests
- 11:45 Demonstration, Parliament Square: Commemorating those who have lost their lives defending the forests, and pledging protection for the Guardians of the Forest
Hear how indigenous people’s protection of the world’s forests is vital to combat climate change and reach the Paris target of reducing global warming to under 2 degrees Celsius. Yet forest defenders are being murdered and criminalised as they fight the increasing threats to their lives, their rights and the planet’s last large forests.
New research will be released from leading human rights organisations. suggesting indigenous communities are least likely to receive climate finance but most likely to be under threat – sometimes from projects aimed at solving climate change.
Join the demonstration to support the Guardians of the Forest in their call for an end to violence, recognition of territorial rights, direct climate finance, consent and for their knowledge to be part of climate change strategies.
