Nature4Climate: Nature in Action Series
Nature and climate action need more than just commitments. Science. Policy. People. They all need to come together to protect, manage and restore our natural ecosystems, creating jobs, protecting livelihoods, increasing biodiversity – and absorbing carbon from the atmosphere. Indigenous Peoples and local communities, along with land stewards like farmers and fishers, have the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to healthy biodiversity, and must be supported to ensure they are at the heart of nature-positive action.
Nature4Climate and If Not Us Then Who have partnered to tell those stories. Stories of people and communities leading the groundwork for nature positive action. Stories of countries committed to reverse nature loss. Stories of the resilience of nature and all its living things. These films highlight successful nature-based solutions and strong Indigenous and local communities’ leadership that successfully link science, policy and action to positively influence on climate discussions and decision-making at COP27 and beyond.
Peruvian activist Betty Rubio travels to Africa to share her experience using drone and GIS technology to monitor forest cover and support reforestation efforts in a local community in Ghana. Together with local youth, they engage in replanting and monitoring the growth of native plants with cultural and economic value, providing synergies with national climate and development targets.
Reef restoration, mangroves and agroforestry. Local communities, scientists and public and private organisations in the Dominican Republic are finding solutions in nature to increase resilience and adapt to climate impacts.
After being displaced due to the construction of a dam, the Panamean Indigenous tribe of Alto Bayano are rescuing their forests and culture with traditional knowledge and nature-based solutions such as reforestation, forest protection and agroforestry, as well as the selling of carbon credits.
