Deadline extended to October 8th, 2023
The Emerging Filmmakers Professional Development Program is an If Not Us Then Who? mentorship program that works with Indigenous & Local Community storytellers to find their cinematic voice, develop their technical skills and nurture a career in filmmaking that can benefit their communities, territories and movements.
If you are excited to develop initial experiences with filmmaking into a professional practice and to use these skills in collaboration with grassroots organizations or collectives you are part of in your territory, then this program is for you!
Over the course of the year, each participant will develop a set of professional development goals that we will help to support with training, peer to peer learning and masterclasses. It is expected that each participant will meet deadlines and participate in group or one-to-one calls and online sessions. The program is delivered entirely virtually and is available in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Filmmakers or collectives are expected to attend 2 hours per month of virtual meetings or masterclasses and to maintain regular communication via instant messaging with mentors. You are expected to work on the development of film projects and other professional development goals throughout the year, at least completing 1 short film (approximately 3-20 mins) and related deliverables to take it from pre-production to post-production. The more you put into the program, the more you will get out of it.
Beyond the core program, enthusiastic participants can also access an extensive range of opportunities such as presenting their work at international climate events and participating in in-person networking and professional development opportunities with the film industry.
To apply, please fill this form. If you are a member of a grassroots organization or community collective, then it will support your application to include a letter of recommendation from the organization.
