Juan Catín

Mapuche-Williche I Chile

Juan Catín is an indigenous from the Mapuche-Williche community, in Chile. He has started as part of the organization that makes up the Indigenous Community of Buill and was later elected president in the same organization. Their trajectory is based on recovering, maintaining and preserving their customs and traditions. In the same way, he was obliged to raise a process of ECMPO. Since under state standards, their sea was conducive to the installation of large industry. Under the eaves and the firmness of their convictions, customs and traditions, they fight to keep the sea free, clean and alive, so that future generations can enjoy the same or more than them. He works through leadership, social networks and everything that allows his community to show and teach the preservation of their spaces and ecosystems — which supply and provide the Mapuche-Williche with life, the future of their children and of tomorrow, especially at a time when the world needs the most.
