Ribaldo Piaguaje

Ribaldo is a young Siekopai photographer and filmmaker. He lives in the Ecuadorion Amazon and is a member of the NGO Alianza Ceibo, an indigenous alliance that reunites four nations from the Amazon — A’i Kofan, Siekopai, Siona, y Waorani — to work for their territories and forests.

Riobaldo has participated in five short documentaries that register ancestral knowledge from the elders as well as their plant teachings. In 2020, he and two more indigenous filmmakers (Judy Payaguaje and Jimmy Piaguaje) directed the short “Siekopai” narrating the fight of the Siekopai nation for their ancestral territory Pë’ëkëya, which is being suffocated by predatory extractivism.
